"What he was seeing of cousre was not possible. The snowbanks had vanished, and summer wildflowers began to color the borders of the trail and the forest as far as he could see."(page 82, paragraph 5) This passage gives the reader an outstanding picture of what Mack sees just before he meets God. He realizes that it was really God that sent him the note and he feels obligated to turn around and go to the shack which has become a nice log cabin.
"'I'm not that great a swimmer and besides, the water looks pretty damn cold,' complained Mack. He suddenly realized what he had said and felt his face flush. 'Uh, I mean darn, pretty darn cold.' He looked up at Jesus with a frozen grimace on his face, but the other man seemed actually enjoying Mack's discomfort" (page 140 paragraph 4) This is important because it shows Mack is getting more comfortable with God and Jesus in particular! It shows that they are friends even though Mack wouldn't correct himself around his regular friends, but he wouldn't say that in front of Papa either, so it shows Mack is comfortable around Jesus.
"Each relationship between two persons is absolutely unique. That is why you cannot love two people the same. It simply is not possible. You love each person differently because of who they are and the uniqueness that they draw out of you. And the more you know another, the richer the colors of that relationship" (p. 215). This quote from Sarayu gives Mack, as well as myself, a great explanation for individual love. It shows me that I can love others in different ways, but still love them just as equally. This truly helps my understanding of my love and God's love.
'" So is it all right if I'm still angry ?"' "Papa was quick to respond. '" Absolutely! What he did was terrible. He caused incredible pain and loss to many. It was wrong, and anger is the right response to something so wrong. But don't let anger and pain and loss you feel prevent you from forgiving him and removing your hands from around his neck." Papa grabbed his pack and threw it on '" Son you may have to declare your forgiveness a hundred times the first day and the second day, but the third day it will be less and each day after, until one day you will realize you have forgiven him completely.'" (p.227) This was told to Mack by Papa before they found Missy's body. This proves to be important in the book and in real life we should never let anger and pain rule our life's we should forgive but never forget. We should forgive them until we know in our hearts that we have fully forgiven them.

"But I didn't stop him from taking her. He took her while i wasnt paying attention." "If you remember you were saving your son. Only you believe that you are to blame. Missy doesn't believe that, neither does Nan or Papa." (pg 181) Mack can finally forgive himself for what happened. He knows it wasn't his fault and he can finally let that guilt go.
